In 2004, Hurricane storms swept through the area and caused significant damage to the statue. Over time, the damage worsened and the statue deteriorated further. Despite efforts to repair and preserve it, the statue eventually had to be removed in 2014.
Today, there is no trace of the Dragon Point statue left on Merritt Island. However, the legend of the dragon that once guarded the treasures of the lagoon lives on.
